Allergy Skin Prick Test

• Also called a scratch test. A tiny amount of allergen solution is applied using a small, disposable plastic device to prick the surface of the skin. This test does not involve needles or drawing blood. 

• Is used most commonly for the identification of food, environmental, and drug allergy. 

• It is well tolerated by most patients, even by infants. Results are available within 15-20 minutes.

Intradermal Skin Test

• Using a small and very thin needle, a diluted allergen is injected just below the skin surface. Results are available within 15-20 minutes.

• This test is used in the assessment of vaccine allergy, venom allergy, and medication allergy.
